Introduction to the Coalition

The Coalition of Jamaican Alumni Associations of Florida (CJAAF) Inc., a charitable organization, was founded in 2010 as an umbrella organization for Jamaican alumni associations in Florida. It was created to assist in the dissemination of information about Jamaican alumni associations registered in the State of Florida and to help in the unification and streamlining of activities of these associations.CJAAF Inc. keeps the Jamaican community in Florida informed about matters relating to education in Jamaica. It also serves as a central repository for information on Jamaican alumni associations in Florida. Like the associations that fall under its umbrella, CJAAF, Inc., is also dedicated to the improvement of educational opportunities for students in Jamaica as well as those that have migrated to the United States of America, and to the improvement of communities in Florida.

Aims & Objectives

  1. To be involved in, support, and promote community development in Jamaica, Florida and the United States;

  2. To provide financial and volunteer assistance to students and educational institutions in Jamaica and Florida, as well as students that have migrated to the United States of America;

  3. To keep the Jamaican Community informed about matters pertaining to Jamaican Alumni Associations registered in Florida, and issues relevant to education and the communities in Florida and Jamaica;

  4. To serve as a central repository for information on Jamaican Alumni Associations in Florida;

  5. To help in the unification and streamlining of activities of Jamaican Alumni Associations in Florida, and to help publicize their events;

  6. To further by directed studies, research and publication, knowledge of Jamaican alumni associations, and to promote through seminars and general cooperation with other organizations or individuals similarly interested, the philosophies, attitudes and culture of Jamaica.

Meet the Co-Chairs

Dr. Sandra Schrouder is a Professor of Public Administration in the Andreas School of Business at Barry University. She received a BA (Honors) degree from the University of the West Indies, an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, and a PhD in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Schrouder’s research interests are in the areas of Management, Public Policies, Public Finance, Education Policies, Organizational Studies, Bureaucratic Discretion, and Juvenile Justice. Her publications include articles in peer reviewed journals such as Development in Practice, Journal of Economics and Finance Education, International Review of Economics Education, Applied Economic Letters, Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development, among others. She is the co-author of the book “Contemporary issues in the Development of Caribbean Economies,” and the author of BarCharts: QuickStudy Business: Management        

Leadership, a quick study guide designed to illustrate the importance of leadership in the business world. Dr. Schrouder has served on the editorial review board of the Journal of Asia Business Studies, and as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed academic journals. Dr. Schrouder is a reviewer for online and web-assisted courses for Quality Matters and frequently reviews textbooks in her field. Dr. Schrouder is very active in the community. She is a member of the Community Relations Council board of North Broward Hospital (Broward Health); a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the City of Parkland; the co-chair of the Coalition of Jamaican Alumni Associations of Florida and the co-editor of its monthly newsletter; a member of the executive board of Florida’s University of the West Indies Alumni Association; and a member of the education committee of Wolmer’s Alumni Association of South Florida.

Dr. Rupert Rhodd is an Associate Professor of Economics and Associate Dean in the College of Business at Florida Atlantic University. He received a BSc (Honors) degree from the University of the West Indies, MA and PhD in Economics from Fordham University. Dr. Rhodd's research interests are in the areas of Development Economics, Economic Modeling, and regional Economics and his publications have appeared in journals including Applied Economics, Journal of Policy Analysis, Journal of Economics and Finance Education, International Review of Economics Education, and Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development. He is the co-author of the book “Contemporary issues in the Development of Caribbean Economies,” and the author of BarCharts: QuickStudy Business: International Business. 

Dr. Rhodd is the Founder and co-chair of the Coalition of Jamaican Alumni Associations of Florida, an umbrella organization for Jamaican Alumni Associations in Florida, a member of the Community Advisory Board for the City of Parkland, and a member of the education committee of Wolmer’s Alumni Association of South Florida, his high school alumni association that he started over twenty five years ago.
